Burn After Reading is the story of Osborne ‘Ozzie’ Cox (John Malkovich) who is a CIA analyst. Ozzie has a bit of a drinking problem and when faced with a demotion at work, he angrily quits his job and decides to write his memoir. When his wife Katie (Tilda Swinton) finds out, she uses it as an opportunity to file for divorce and continue her affair with Harry Pfarrer (George Clooney), a married deputy U.S. Marshal. Katie’s lawyers ask for their financial records and she delivers the records and other files, including, unbeknownst to her, the draft of Ozzie’s memoir. The lawyer’s assistant copies the files on to a CD, which she accidentally left in the locker room of Hardbodies, a local gym. The disc is discovered by dim-witted personal trainer Chad Feldheimer (Brad Pitt) and his co-worker Linda Litzke (France McDormand), who mistakenly believe it to contain sensitive government information and they decide to seek a ransom for the return of the disc.
