Larry Crowne is the story of Larry Crowne (Tom Hanks), a middle-aged Navy veteran who unexpectedly loses his job at a big-box store due to a lack of college education, despite his seniority and exemplary work. Larry is divorced and lives alone and is on the verge of losing his house unless he finds a new job. His neighbor, Lamar (Cedric the Entertainer) advises him to enroll at East Valley Community College to get an education and he registers for a speech class taught by Mercedes Tainot (Julia Roberts) and an economics class taught by Dr. Ed Matsutani (George Takei).
