Failure to Launch is the story of a 35 year old man named Tripp (Matthew McConaughey) who still lives at home with his parents Sue and Al (Kathy Bates and Terry Bradshaw). Wanting to be empty-nesters, Tripp’s parents, Sue and Al meet with a woman named Paula (Sarah Jessica Parker), who specializes in getting grown men to move out of their parents’ homes. She has a simple formula: You look nice, you find out what they like and you pretend to like it, too. Paula tells his parents, “I never sleep with my clients,” and that she takes hardened bachelors, force them to fall in love with her, and use that leverage to get them to move out of the parental home, after which she breaks up with them, and they’re fine. After hearing her strategy, Sue and Al hire Paula to help get Tripp out of their house for good. On the other hand, Tripp has a different tactic with women. His strategy is to date a girl until she begins to like him, and then take her home to bed, not telling her it is his parents home and uses their shock to break up with them.
Movie Quotes
“Whoa, whoa… I’m a ramblin’ man, I’m a tumble weed, I’m a seeker of truth! And one truth I’ve learned – a child is a parent’s greatest joy, which is why I can’t leave my parents’ place, because… because they would miss me!” – Demo
“Point is, my friend, you are afraid of love.” – Ace
“Well, this is my Naked Room.” – Al
“Actually it’s… it’s quite simple. You just have to decide. Do you want to spend the rest of your life having fun or do you want to spend it with me?” – Paula
