What Women Want is the story of a chauvinistic advertising executive named Nick Marshall (Mel Gibson) who accidentally gets electrocuted while doing product research and suddenly acquires the ability to hear what women are thinking. Nick was up for a promotion and ended up losing out to a high powered executive from a competing firm named Darcy Maguire (Helen Hunt). Nick attempts to use this new power to bring about the fall of his new female boss by using this inside knowledge to outwit his superior and take credit for her ideas. Nick begins to fall in love with her and finds himself feeling more than a little guilty when his plan to have her fired looks like it might come to fruition.
