Hail Caesar! follows a day in the life of Eddie Mannix (Josh Brolin), the head of property protection at Capital Pictures whose job is to shield the studio’s stars from any scandal and ensure their public persona is what the studio wants. A Hollywood fixer who solves all the problems of his big name actors and filmmakers.

His latest assignments involve a beautiful swimmer, disgruntled director, a singing cowboy and a handsome dancer. DeeAnna Moran (Scarlett Johansson), the studio’s single and wholesome screen “mermaid”, is pregnant and will soon be showing. Laurence Laurentz (Ralph Fiennes), the director of urbane drawing room comedies, is balking about the casting of Hobie Doyle (Alden Ehreneich), the studio’s singing cowboy, in a role as a sophisticate in his latest movie and Burt Gurney (Channing Tatum), an unabashed communist sympathizer who considers defecting because he likes the uniforms.

As if all this wasn’t enough, Mannix faces his biggest challenge when Baird Whitlock (George Clooney), the studio’s biggest property disappears. People are starting to notice Whitlock is missing and Eddie receives a message demanding a ransom of $100,000 for Baird’s return, issued by “The Future”. If the studio doesn’t pay $100,000, it’s the end of the line for Whitlock.
