Deepwater Horizon is a dramatization of the disaster on April 20, 2010 where an offshore oil drilling rig platform called the Deepwater Horizon exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, resulting in the worst oil spill in American history and forever will be remembered as the ‘BP Oil Spill’. Based on true accounts of the crew, the project was full of technical difficulties and delays and the BP executives ordered final site inspections to be curtailed against the helpless protest of the general operational supervisor, Jimmy Harrell (Kurt Russell) and his Chief Electrical Engineer, Mike Williams (Mark Wahlberg). On April 20th, the workers’ fears were realized in the worst possible way when the rig’s various structural and system flaws spark a catastrophic cascade of failures that would create a massive blowout and explosion threatening the entire crew which led to the worst environmental disaster in US history. Over the course of 87 days, the damaged Macondo wellhead, located 5,000 feet beneath the ocean’s surface, leaked an estimated 3.19 million barrels (130 million gallons) of oil into the Gulf of Mexico before it was finally capped off.
