Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi follows General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) as she leads the evacuation of Resistance forces from their main base on D’Quar shortly after the destruction of Starkiller Base, a mobile stronghold of the First Order. As the First Order fleet arrives, Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), against General Leia’s orders, leads a costly counterattack that destroys a First Order dreadnought but many ships and pilots are lost.

In the meantime, Rey (Daisy Ridley), Chewbacca (Joonas Suotomo) and R2-D2 have been sent by Leia to the planet Ahch-To to locate and seek help from her brother and Jedi Knight, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). Luke shows no interest in returning to the fight and they follow Luke to his home. After demonstrating an attraction to the ancient Jedi texts, Rey voices her desire to be trained in the ways of the Jedi. Luke tells her he’ll never train another Jedi. However, shortly after making the statement, Rey experiences her first real connection to Kylo Ren, allowing them to communicate as if standing in the same room. She tells Luke of her experience which forces him to make a decision that changes their lives forever as he agrees to give her three lessons.

Meanwhile, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson) lead the First Order in an all-out assault against Leia and the Resistance for supremacy of the galaxy.
