Galaxy Quest is the story of the stars of a 1970’s science fiction television show and the cast who are now working the convention circuit and living through their re-runs.  At a convention, a group approaches Jason Nesmith (Tim Allen) telling him they need his help and ask him to accompany them to negotiate a peace treaty.  Thinking they are just fans of the show, he accepts the job and is transported to their spacecraft.  Unbeknownst to Jason he thinks he is in a basement doing an acting job and when the negotiation takes place, he orders an attack on Sarris’ ship.  Thinking the job is done, he asks to go back home when he discovers he is actually on an alien spacecraft as he gets transported back to Earth.  The aliens come back to Earth and tell Jason that the attack was unsuccessful and that Sarris is going to destroy their people.  Jason recruits his other cast mates to go back to the ship to help in their quest to overcome the oppressive regime in their solar system.
