Spanglish is the story of Flor Moreno (Paz Vega), a Mexican immigrant and single mother of one who gets a job as a housekeeper at the home of a successful chef, John Clasky (Adam Sandler), his insecure wire Deborah (Tea Leoni), their two children and Deborah’s mother Evelyn (Cloris Leachman).  Despite Flor’s lack of an English vocabulary, she tries her best to assist the Clasky family in more than just house cleaning matters.  When Flor admits she can’t handle the schedule because of her daughter, Cristina (Shelbie Bruce), Deborah decides they should move into the Clasky home.  Deborah, much to Flor’s dislike, treats Christina much like her own and at the same time she hurts the feelings of her own daughter, Bernice, as well as Flor.  Cultures clash and tensions run high as Flor and the Clasky’s struggle to share space while raising their children on their own, and very different, terms.

“You didn’t set the bar that high.” – John Clasky
