Ford v Ferrari follows American automotive designer and former professional race car driver Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon) and fearless British race car driver Ken Miles (Christian Bale) as they battle corporate interference, the laws of physics and their own personal demons to build a revolutionary race car for Ford and challenge Ferrari at the 1966 24 Hours of La Mans race in France.

Meanwhile, at Ford Motors, Henry Ford II (Tracy Letts) is furious that sales are down and that his father’s company is in danger. He begins taking pitches from his underlings and Lee Iacocca (Jon Bernthal) pitches him the idea that people want sexy cars and the sexy cars are race cars, like Ferrari’s. Ferrari has been struggling and Iacocca flies to Italy to offer Enzo Ferrari (Remo Girone) a deal to buy part of the company and Enzo would remain in control. Enzo uses the offer to get Fiat to make a good offer and they buy Ferrari and tells Ford to shove it.

Feeling taken advantage of and mad at being called a fat pig by Ferrari, Ford decides he will start his own racing division to challenge Ferrari directly. Lee Iacocca then approaches Carroll Shelby, as the only American to ever win at Le Mans, and asks him to head up the Ford racing team to develop and build from scratch the Ford GT40, an entirely new vehicle with the potential to defeat the perennially favorite Ferrari.

Movie Quotes

“It’s a truly lucky man who knows what he wants to do in this world, because that man will never work a day in his life.” – Carroll Shelby
“If you’re going to push a piece of machinery to the limit, and expect it to hold together, you have to have some sense of where that limit is.” – Ken Miles

“There’s a point, seven thousand RPM, where everything fades. The machine becomes weightless, just disappears. And all that’s left is a body moving through space and time. Seven thousand RPM. That’s where you meet it. It asks you a question. The only question that matters, “Who are you?” – Carroll Shelby

“Hear that? That’s the sound of the Ford Motor Company out of business.” – Henry Ford II
