Edge of Tomorrow is the story of Major William Cage (Tom Cruise), a Army public relations officer with no combat experience.  Major Cage has a disagreement with General Brigham (Brendan Gleeson) who forces him join a European landing operation to combat alien forces who have invaded planet Earth.   The seemingly invincible aliens are called Mimics and have defeated every military unit that has been thrown at them.  Meanwhile, Major Cage is a member of the landing force assigned to combat the Mimics in a beach invasion.  He is unfamiliar with his weapons and fumbles through learning as he watches others from his party get annihilated.  On the ground he witnesses a legendary Special Forces warrior, Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt), successfully killing aliens moments before he himself is killed by one of the Mimics who he wounded and as he is dying, gets exposed to its blood.  Moments later, Major Cage awakens and finds himself back at the Army base the day before he got killed.  Confused, he tries to tell his superiors about what had happened and to ask them to call off the invasion because everyone gets killed on the beach.  The next day he again finds himself as a member of the landing force assigned to storms the beach and gets killed again only to awaken on the previous day.  Somehow he has been thrown into some sort of a time loop in which he relives the same brutal fight — and his death — over and over again.  The next time he awakens, he seeks out Rita Vrataski and explains to her what is happening and the same thing had happened to her.  With each incarnation, Major Cage improves his fighting abilities and becomes able to engage the aliens with increasing skill.  Day after day, he searches for a way to defeat the alien invaders, dying over and over again, trying new tactics every time he awakens to get them one step closer to defeating the enemy!
