Meanwhile, Ben Fong-Torres (Terry Chen), the editor of Rolling Stone magazine contacts William to give him an assignment to interview the up and coming band Stillwater for the magazine. William embarks on an eye-opening journey with the band and travels with them to secure interviews with Stillwater’s lead guitar player, Russell Hammond (Billy Crudup) and lead singer Jeff Bebe (Jason Lee).
Russell takes a liking to young William and his new acquaintance, and invites William and veteran groupie Penny Lane (Kate Hudson), on the road with them so William can finish his interview.
Movie Quotes
“Music, you know, true music – not just rock n roll – it chooses you. It lives in your car, or alone listening to your headphones, you know, with the cast scenic bridges and angelic choirs in your brain. It’s a place apart from the vast, benign lap of America.” – Lester Bangs
“I didn’t invent the rainy day, man, I just own the best umbrella.” – Dennis Hope
“I have to go home.” – William Miller
“You are home.” – Penny Lane
“So, you’re talking to Ben Fong-Torres, right? Here’s what you do. Tell him it’s a think piece about a mid level band struggling with their own limitations in the harsh face of stardom. [Chuckles] He’ll wet himself.” – Lester Bangs
