Fun with Dick and Jane is the story of Dick Harper (Jim Carrey) and his wife Jane (Tea Leoni), a middle-class couple trying to keep up with the Jones and compete with their neighbors with cars and lawns.  Dick was on the fast track and just got promoted to the Head of Communications at Globodyne giving him a nice raise in salary and Jane is going to be able to quit her job and spend more time with the kids.

The very next day, Dick makes his debut as the face of Globodyne in a television interview show pitted against Ralph Nader.  Dick had prepared remarks for the interview and was blindsided with questions about Globodyne’s Enron-esque collapse.  During the interview, the stock chart for Globodyne was plummeting along with its pension fund.  The company was bankrupt and Dick was out of a job.  Coincidentally, the very same day, Jane was fed up at work and knowing Dick had just received a raise, she quit her job in a dramatic tirade.

Suddenly the two were jobless with no prospects with the economy suffering.  Jobless with no savings, pension or home equity, Dick and Jane sink slowly into poverty to the point their newly installed lawn gets repossessed.  Desperate, Dick and Jane resort to robbery in order to handle the massive debt they now face.  Two intelligent people, the husband and wife duo actually get pretty good at robbing people and even enjoy it — but they have second thoughts when they’re reminded that crime can hurt innocent people.  When the couple hears that Globodyne boss Jack McCallister (Alec Baldwin) actually swindled the company pension and was the real reason the company went bankrupt, they plot revenge.
