The Truman Show is the story of Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey), an insurance salesman leading an idyllic, peaceful life on Seahaven Island.  However, he is also the unsuspecting star of the Truman Show, a reality television program which is broadcast live 24 hours a day around the world.  His entire life, from his birth throughout his teen and young adult years, has taken place within a giant arcological dome near Hollywood, fashioned to create the seaside town of Seahaven Island.  The town is equipped with thousands of cameras to monitor all aspects of his life.  He doesn’t know it, but everything in his life is part of a massive TV set and has been for 30 years.

Executive producer Christof (Ed Harris) orchestrates ‘The Truman Show’ from a control booth located in the sky and he tries to control Truman’s mind, even removing his true love, Sylvia (Natascha McElhone), from the show and replacing her with Meryl (Laura Linney) whom Truman eventually marries.

Truman is not happy with his life.  He wants to see the world.  He wants to get away from his happy-happy, ever tidy, nice and shiny little island town and explore.  As Truman gradually discovers the truth as he begins to notice repeating traffic patterns and people in the same places every day, however, he must decide whether to act on it.
