Biography
Amy Adams is known for her comedic and dramatic performances and she originally trained to be a ballerina but at 18 found musical theater to be a better fit.
She made her feature film debut with a supporting part in the 1999 satire Drop Dead Gorgeous. After moving to Los Angeles, she made guest appearances in television and took on ‘mean girl’ parts in small-scale features. Her first major movie role came in Steven Spielberg’s 2002 biopic Catch Me If You Can, opposite Leonardo DiCaprio and her breakthrough came in the part of a loquacious pregnant woman in the 2005 independent film Junebug. Adams got her shot as a leading lady in the 2007 musical Enchanted in which she played a cheerful princess. Her other work includes roles in The Fighter (2010), Julie & Julia (2009), Leap Year (2010) and American Hustle (2013). She joined the DC Comic Universe with her portrayal of Lois Lane in Man of Steel (2013) and played Lynne Cheney in the satirical film Vice (2018).
Adams has been featured three times in annual rankings for the highest-paid actresses in the world and was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine. In 2017, Adams received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Her accolades include winning two Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress for American Hustle (2013) and Big Eyes (2014) and being nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Supporting Actress for Junebug (2005), Doubt (2008), The Fighter (2010), The Master (2012) and Vice (2018); and Best Actress for American Hustle (2013). She has also been nominated for seven British Academy Film Awards.
