Never Been Kissed is the story of Josie Geller (Drew Barrymore), a baby-faced junior copy editor at the Chicago Sun-Times who was desperate to graduate from copy editor to reporter.  She gets her chance when the owner of the paper orders the editor to cover the high-school scene and Josie is given the assignment to pose undercover as a student at her former high school to research contemporary teenage culture.  Josie enrolls and quickly falls back into her own high school habits and tries to fit in as well as possible.

Josie sees the assignment as an opportunity to redo everything and correct the mistakes she made in high school.  She gets a makeover and with the help of her brother, Rob (David Arquette), who was very popular in high school, Josie infiltrates the inner circle of the most popular clique on campus.  But she hits a major snag in her investigation–not to mention her own failed love life–when she falls for her dreamy English teacher, Sam Coulson (Michael Vartan), and is instructed to focus the story on a teacher who falls for his student.  Josie has to decide whether to be true to her dream of being a reporter or true to her heart.
