Remember the Titans is a true story based on actual events where a High School football team becomes the unifying symbol for the entire community. In 1971 Alexandria Virginia, where racial segregation was still being practiced, two High Schools were integrated under federal mandate.

The year is seen through the eyes of the football team where coach Herman Boone (Denzel Washington), the coach from the former all black High School is brought to the new school and is awarded the head coaching position over legendary coach Bill Yoast (Will Patton), the highly successful white coach. Tensions arise when players of different races are forced together on the same football team. Many of these tensions are eased during the two-week training camp held in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

When the team returned to Alexandria from training camp the players found the city in turmoil due to the forced desegregation of the schools. As the season progresses, the team’s success caused the community to accept the changes and after the Titans’ perfect season, the team and the city were closer than ever as the boys and adults depend on and trust each other.

Movie Quotes

“In Virginia, high school football is a way of life, it’s bigger than Christmas day. My daddy coached in Alexandria, he worked so hard my momma left him, but I stayed with coach, he needed me on that field.” – Sheryl Yoast
“Attitude reflects leadership, captain.” – Julius ‘Big Ju’ Campbell

“You think football is fun?” – Coach Herman Boone
“Zero fun sir!” – Petey Jones

“This is no democracy. It is a dictatorship. I am the law.” – Coach Herman Boone

“I don’t scratch my head unless it itches and I don’t dance unless I hear some music. I will not be intimidated. That’s just the way it is.” – Coach Herman Boone
“You listen. And you take a lesson from the dead. If we don’t come together, right now, on this hallowed ground, we too will be destroyed…just like they were. I don’t care if you like each other or not. But you will respect each other. And maybe…I don’t know…maybe we’ll learn to play this game like men.” – Coach Herman Boone
